Medication is not the only option for fighting chronic pain -- cold laser therapy is an effective treatment for treating recurring pain in different areas of the body. Laser therapy is useful in reducing symptoms associated with arthritis, bursitis, fibromyalgia, and other forms of chronic pain. It is also effective in treating soft tissue problems that often cause or worsen these conditions.
Cold laser therapy is a safe and non-invasive treatment, and we are happy to offer it to our chiropractic patients at the Omni Wellness Center in Charlotte. Our chiropractor, Dr. Darcey Ladner, has seen the positive benefits of this non-invasive treatment for neck pain, back pain, shoulder pain, and pain in the extremities.
Laser therapy uses a combination low level lasers to treat multiple soft tissue problems. These can be used in treating chronic pain, muscle strains, repetitive motion injuries, tendonitis, ligament sprains, soft tissue injuries, removing scar tissue, and reducing back pain or neck pain.
Cold laser therapy works by emitting photons into affected tissue. This boosts cellular and sub-cellular activity, which provides pain relief and stimulates the healing process. Photons specifically stimulate mitochondria inside the cells so they increase the production of adenosine triphosphate (ATP). ATP plays a vital role in reducing inflammation, healing damaged tissue, and creating new and healthy cells.
Each laser ranges from 660 nm to 900 nm. The specific intensity is related to the depth of the injury. 660nm lasers treat superficial injuries just below the surface of the skin, while 900nm lasers are designed to penetrate 4-to-5 inches of tissue to treat more serious tissue damage.
Laser treatments increase healthy cell production while limiting the formation and accumulation of fibrous tissue and scar tissue. The therapy is also effective in eliminating numbness or tingling in the extremities by restoring healthy nerve function. Back pain or neck pain can typically be caused by pressure on nerves. Laser treatments, combined with spinal adjustments and corrective exercises, can reduce and eliminate pain in your neck or back.
Cold laser therapy takes some time to promote complete healing, even at the accelerated pace lasers offer. Our Charlotte chiropractor offers several sessions of laser treatments to aid your soft tissues in the healing process. The good news is that since it is a non-invasive treatment, there is no recovery time after a laser treatment. You can go home or return to work between treatment sessions.
Our chiropractor uses laser therapy to treat carpal tunnel syndrome, tennis elbow, bursitis, arthritis, fibromyalgia, and many other forms of chronic pain. It offers many positive results and can be what you need to get back on your feet and lead an active lifestyle again.
